Equipmake has a fully instrumented motor test dynamometer facility. The facility has the capability to test motors up to 200kW, with voltages between 200V – 800V DC. The same facility has a bespoke rig built to test a 120,000 rpm 17kW MGU.
The facility incorporates a Dewetron precision power analyser system for accurate analysis of motor efficiency, Real power, and harmonic content. Additionally, the facility has full instrumentation for the measurement of cooling performance and heat rejection for water and oil cooled motors, with fully thermostatically controlled water and oil cooling circuits.
The motor dyno is geared allowing motors up to 30,000 rpm to be tested.
For our motor projects, the development of the power electronic control units runs in parallel with the motor design, enable us to produce an optimized electronic / motor package.
Often, a motor is designed, and then the power electronic inverter is chosen. This may result in a sub optimal design, which will also increase costs in production.
Our USP includes a collaborative way of working with our clients and suppliers of IGBT’s, SiC modules and DC link capacitors, to enable us to produce the best design compromise, improving performance and reducing cost.
Functional Safety is an important requirement in hazardous applications such as automotive traction inverters. The automotive industry standard, ISO26262, defines the requirements for the functional safety of electronic equipment on vehicles. Whilst the compliance of the vehicle is the responsibility of the manufacturer, the task can be assisted via the application of sub systems which have been designed with the standard in mind. Equipmake is currently developing a series of automotive inverters HPI-450 <hyperlink to product page> and HPI-800 <hyperlink to product page> with safety features which will enable it to be part of a compliant ISO26262 system.
